All About Us
Essex Deaf Ramble Group was first formed in 2006. Ken Burgess and a group of friends were walking around in Danbury Park and got chatting about setting up a ramble group for deaf in Essex. Ken's wife Debbie (seen on the right in the picture) and Chrissie (left) started the ball rolling by sending infromation via
e-mail, text, fax also word of mouth to those who were known to be interested. After a slow start the group grew and now it has 34 listed members. The aim of the group in the cater for those deaf in Essex and others in surrounding areas to go for monthly walks (first Sunday every month) and the distance of the walks would be reasonable (approx 5-8 miles) so as to attract those who did not want to do the heavy longer distance. Although longer distances have been done when the group did walking breaks in Peak District, Lake District (twice) and Cotswolds. The group is free to join and open to any deaf, family and hearing people who are involved with deaf world. If you are interested in joining the group please go to the contact page where you will be forwarded details for forthcoming walks if you leave your e-mail details.
